2 Things You Can Do To Prevent A Mouse Infestation

Judy Lute

No one likes to think about having mice in the house over the winter. The problem is, as much as you want to have somewhere nice and warm to spend the winter, that's as much as mice do too. Come fall, they are looking for a nice place to stay, and that might be your house. There are things that you can do to try to keep mice out of your house and control any mouse situation until you get an exterminator out to your house to get rid of them.

Seal Your Food

One thing that will definitely attract mice is the ability to get food easily. You can do things like put flour, sugar, cereal, rice, and other similar foods in resealable containers. That way, rodents have a harder time getting into those things to get some food. It will also help to protect your food from any contamination that the mice might cause. Rodent contamination can cost you a lot of money since you have to toss out and replace all that food. While you are sealing up your food, make sure that you clean up any crumbs as soon as possible and dispose of them in your trash can or down your drain.

Check For Entrances

Another thing that you can do is to look around the exterior of your house and see if you can find any places where the mice might be getting in. The holes where the mice can get in can be very small. Basically, as long the mouse can get their head through the hole, the rest of their body can fit. If you see holes, you want to block them off. Try putting some screening material or wire mesh over the hole, since that will be harder for the mice to chew through. You could also stuff some steel wool in the hole, for the same reason. If you can't find any places where the mouse is getting in, don't be too worried, because the exterminator can help you find them when they come and check your house for you. The exterminator should also be able to help you seal up any holes.

If you have mice or think that you have mice, you need to do what you can to get them under control. There are several things that you can do, including contacting pest control. Pest control services will be able to help you control the mice better and help keep them out of your house.
