Kill Ants In Your Home And Keep Them From Returning: 4 Tips

Judy Lute

If you've spotted an ant or two inside your home, chances are there's a lot more somewhere else in your house. The thought of ants hiding somewhere in your home may give you the heebie jeebies or might make you sleep a little less at night - they could be ANYWHERE! Kill the ants that you can see and even the ones you don't by following the tips below, then prevent them from coming back. Read on for tips.

1. Wipe Down Surfaces

Wipe down surfaces in your home to remove grease, oil and other spills or splatters on your counters, cabinets and floors. Wipe down your pantry and spice cabinet, as well as your stove top and oven where you may have spotted these pests. Use bleach wipes or soapy water to clean these surfaces. Wipe them down daily to keep crumbs and other debris from building up and giving ants a nice place to feed.

2. Set Ant Traps

Set ant traps around your home where you've spotted ants. The traps have poison inside that will kill the ants immediately. You can find ant traps at your local hardware store or grocery store. Be sure to keep the traps out of reach of children and pets. The traps help kill the ants you can see, although you can also find ant baits that ants will take to their nest and kill the entire colony, including the queen. Be sure to set baits as well around your home (out of reach of children and pets). Replace the baits and traps at least every other month.

3. Spray Your Homes Perimeter

Spray the perimeter of your home to prevent ants from coming inside. You can sprinkle a granular pesticide as well to keep ants and other pests such as roaches and spiders at bay as well. Ants come in from outside, so try your best to get rid of the ants outside as well.

4. Clean Up Your Homes Exterior

Clean up the exterior of your home where ants can be nesting, such as in mulch, landscape piles and other debris around your home. If you have piles of garbage or rubbish around your home, ants and other pests can be nesting inside, so it's important to clean up this debris. Clean the area around your home and keep a clear perimeter around your homes foundation by moving landscaping away from your home. Clip back tree limbs as well that may be hanging over your home, giving ants a nice bridge to your home.

If you have problems with ants, no matter the type, call a professional pest control specialist, like Chem-Wise Ecological Pest Management, to get rid of the entire colony and prevent them from returning.
